This hand painted original design silk scarf features brilliant autumn leaves outlined in gold adrift on a blue background. A yellow border surrounds the leaves. I hand painted this one-of-a-kind silk scarf using the serti or resist method of painting with dyes. This scarf began as a length of white silk recycled from the lining of a vintage Japanese kimono. After washing the silk I drew the original design on it. Then I stretched the silk on a frame. Next I applied a gold resist to the outlines. After the resist dried, I used special dyes to paint the beautiful colors. When the dye was dry I removed the scarf from the frame and set the colors by steaming for 3 hours, bringing out the lustrous sheen you only find in silk. I then rinsed the resist and excess dye from the scarf and ironed it dry. Finally, I hand stitched the rolled hem. Enjoy!

This hand painted Silk Scarf is a soft silk habotai painted with a gorgeous background of browns, greens, yellows and orangy pinks. Over this is a sprinkling of autumn leaves. This is hand painted silk so, even though I may repeat my pattern for the leaves , no two scarves are ever the same. It is a free hand, watercolour inspired design so there will usually be some asymmetry in the pattern. It measures approximately 62 inches x 11 inches (158 x 28 cms ) and is lovely and soft on the skin.

I Details: -Hand painted on pure silk -This is painted with the wax batik techinque where hot wax is applied to the silk in the design desired. This scarf was painted in 4 layers and when finished I pressed the scarf between layers of paper to remove all the wax. Then the scarf was steamed 3 hours to set the French dyes and leave it soft, smooth and color fast. Then the scarf is rinsed and pressed.
